Monthly Reset: 4 Steps to Start The Month Right

New month, new possibilities. A new beginning, a fresh start, a blank canvas.

Even though there’s never a wrong time for a reset if you need one, there’s just something about the promise of a new month. You can start over at any time, any day of the week, any date, but we’re taking advantage of the *newness* brought by the 1st of the month.

Here are 4 things to do to reset and start the new month.

1 —

Reflect On The Previous Month

Reflect on the month that just passed. It doesn’t have to be a highlight reel. Go with whatever comes to you first. If you genuinely want to take your growth to the next level, consider one lesson you learned from each event you’re reflecting on.

Here are some prompts to get you started - take what resonates and leave the rest:

  • What were the past month's most significant moments or events, and why were they important to me?

  • What were the key challenges or obstacles I faced during the month, and how did I respond to them? What can I learn from these experiences?

  • What were the moments of joy, gratitude, or personal growth I experienced? How can I carry forward these positive aspects into the upcoming month?

Leaving the previous month behind, let’s focus on the upcoming one.

2 —

Realign Your Priorities

Taking stock of your priorities and goals and ensuring these are still aligned with who you want to be, what you have the energy for, and what circumstances will allow is a great way to ensure you enter the new month with intention.

Start with these questions:

  • Do I have clarity on what I want to prioritize this month?

  • Do I need or want to adjust my goals going forward?

  • Are my priorities and goals aligned with my energy levels and external circumstances for the coming month?

Take a step back and be honest with yourself when you go through this step. Changing your goals or shifting priorities is not the same as having failed. In fact, it’s the opposite.

It’s setting yourself up for success. Life evolves, and so do our priorities. Being honest and realistic about this is likely to increase your chances of succeeding, so don’t skip this step.

Moving on.

3 —

Declutter & Organize

Following this list is hopefully taking care of some of your mental clutter, so let’s get into the physical kind.

Declutter, clean, and organize the areas that will make the most significant impact.

Sometimes, that can mean a deep cleaning of your entire house. Other times, it could mean tidying your desk and wiping the kitchen counters.

Do as much or as little as you have time and energy for, and remember that your circumstances are unique to you. We are not here to make you feel any way about doing or not doing something.

4 —

Look After Yourself With Some Self-Care

Prioritize yourself, or risk the consequences. Take it from someone who suffered from burnout. It will catch up.

So let’s use the new month as another reason to indulge in some wellness rituals.

This can be whatever you want it to be. Here are some suggestions:

  • Get fresh air

  • Do a brain dump, either by journaling or voice recording

  • Have a silent disco and dance it out

  • Reading for pleasure

  • Indulge in some skincare

  • Prepare some delicious and nutrient-dense foods for

  • Connect socially with a friend

  • And, of course, a face mask?

That’s it, folks!

Using this list for your monthly reset is an excellent starting point. Feel free to add or remove whatever feels right and comfortable for you.
